Sheila Swift and Big FM

Sheila Swift hit "Feel Like I Do" Featured on bigFM Radio

2007 Rockwired Female Artist of the Year Sheila Swift (D'Jango Blue Music label, managed by Desert Highway Music) is being featured this Sunday on bigFM Radio, which simultaneously broadcasts in Los Angeles and Germany (how cool is that?)! Here's the link followed by what they have to say about her!http://bigmusic.big-fm.info/065-788-DA7-C8A/content/html/musicpipeline/index.htmlAbout SHEILA SWIFTWe?re having her back here for the second time, as we earlier featured her wonderful song, SOBER! And now, here?s more of Sheila?s great voice and songwriting with great catchy hooks on FEEL LIKE I DO. You would never know that she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor at the young age of 12! But she?s proven that you never give up your dreams, and she?s going strong with her Indie Artistic musical career, making heads turn here in the U.S. with her unstoppable energy, spirit, serious musicianship and live performance chops. Swift is also an artisan and painter, having majored in art and English at Houston Baptist University. With Neil Finn and Sarah McLachlan as influences, Swift manages her own style with ease, with guitarist- husband Michael working closely with her, as well as having a stellar band of top heavy talent like bassist Joey Canaday (LeAnn Rimes) and pianist Dennis Borycki (Garth Brooks), for example. She just played two major showcases at the prestigious U.S. Indie Music Festival, SXSW in Austin, TX this year at Mom?s and Austin Java in conjunction with Desert Highway Records / deserthighwayrecords.com. Right now, Swift is working on new music for her upcoming EP and scheduling a release for 2009. And guess what? She has just announced that she will be having twins with her husband Michael on Sept. 27th! Big Congratz Sheila To You!

Houston Chronicle Review! 01/04/07

Sheila Swift's Shape is a pop lover's dream
By JOEY GUERRA
Sheila Swift's The Shape of Things is a smart-pop lover's dream. It's a
slick, vividly produced collection of tunes that are sentimental
without overdosing on syrup. Swift's bold, brightly colored voice
injects every song with a shimmering immediacy.

The Houston-based singer, who spent some time in Seattle, has a knack
for catchy hooks that are more complex than most of what rules Top 40
radio. It makes sense, since she lists Neil Finn and Sarah McLachlan as
influences.

Swift recorded the disc in Idaho with an impressive set of players that
includes bassist Joey Canaday (LeAnn Rimes), drummer Jeff Marino (Jo
Dee Messina), guitarist Nathan Trueb (the Carolines) and pianist Dennis
Borycki (Garth Brooks).

Kickoff track Feel Like I Do weaves a tale of a tortuous breakup, but
it's pure joy once the chorus kicks in, as Swift wonders if others have
felt the same as she does.

She muses about her strengths and weaknesses during Hard Like Oak and
showcases a lilting country-pop groove on There's Still Love, which
recalls the sweet sound of the Wreckers.

Interrupter, another standout, equates a disastrous relationship with a
wild-West shootout. An ominous arrangement rolls behind Swift's clever
lyrics, which position her as an unlikely gunslinger.

As its title suggests, Something Borrowed is about a wedding day, but
it's also a bittersweet remembrance of lost loved ones. It incorporates
joy and pain and wraps them in a lush, lovely arrangement.

The disc's — and Swift's — ultimate strength is imagery and metaphor,
which never spill into cliché. Swift, who majored in art and English at
Houston Baptist University, also paints. (You can see her work at
www.gallery279.com).

The music alone, though, creates a vivid pop portrait that always
delights — and often dazzles.

Stand Against Violence

At a time in which the news media is filled with stories of horrific acts of violence being committed against young women in our schools, and in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, MyCityRocks (http://www.MyCityRocks.com) invites its members and the community at large to STAND against violence and CELEBRATE happy relationships.

Coordinated by Bay Area Turning Point (http://www.bayareaturningpoint.org) with support from MyCityRocks, the 3rd Annual STAND AGAINST VIOLENCE will take place Saturday, October 14th, 2006 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm in the Webster suburb of Houston, on the lawn of McWhirter elementary (300 Pennsylvania, Webster, Texas). MyCityRocks members will join many other community participants in standing along NASA Parkway for 15 minutes while holding signs with messages like "CHOOSE RESPECT!" Following the stand, a celebration of healthy relationships will include a wide variety of family activities such as a chili cook-off, raffles, moonwalk, free food, games, safety information, and a free concert.

Recording artists scheduled to play at Stand Against Violence include Dipstick, Mlee Marie, and Sheila Swift (http://www.sheilaswift.com), providing a preview from her "The Shape of Things" album due for release in January 2007. "We are thrilled to support Stand Against Violence and to have the opportunity to bring such exciting musical artists to the event as a part of our ROCK SAFE program," explained MyCityRocks Executive Director Cliff Kurtzman.
